Growing up in Hong Kong, the boundary between the ordinary and the supernatural was always present. Strange Tales from a Chinese Studio became the lens through which this collection explores that threshold. Through layering, shape, and textile.
Scholar. Dragon. Talisman. The figures that frame the collection.
Narrative development / scholar, dragon, Chinese talisman
Qing Dynasty dress, veils, supernatural women, the concept of bound.
Exploring how to balance the ethereal delicacy of ghosts with the intellectual authority of scholars. Fabric that reveals and conceals simultaneously.
Research / ghostly forms / spirit shapes
Paper cutting, laser cut, tyvek, organza. Silhouette working through material.
Organza, jacquard, wool, tyvek, wax and starch. Each surface studied for how it holds or dissolves form.
Five directions, each testing how colour carries the power and weight of the characters.
Material / colour exploration / five looks

Starting from organic geometric shapes. Ink, lino, cyanotype.
Starting by exploring organic geometric shapes, circles, dots, controlled ink marks. Marbling, pooling, blot and line. These initial marks became the raw language of the print.
Looking at fabric scraps, red yarn, woven ribbon, burned and torn material, arranged as a grid. The geometry of the talisman and the geometry of the weave converging.
Six print variations. Iterating across scale, density and colour.
Print experiments / six variations
Systematic colour testing, moving the same base pattern from achromatic monochrome through desaturated red to full deep crimson. Six positions on a single spectrum.
Prints experiment / kimono blazer, coat with collar, exceeding neckline, patchwork
A dense architectural grid built from woven fabric scrap photography, lino print texture, and cyanotype depth. Red thread runs vertically through the composition. Organic origins made systematic.
